Since its founding in 1905, as the Long Island Society of Anesthetists, the achievements of the ASA have made it an important voice in American Medicine and the foremost advocate for all patients who require anesthesia or relief from pain. Anesthesiology is a profession rich in history, and it is a history that has contributed greatly to the advancement of medical science. Without the amazing advances in anesthesia drugs and techniques over the past century, much of the miracle of modern medicine and surgery would be impossible. The specialty has been recognized as a leader in improving patient safety. The ASA’s dedication to the patient dates back to their very beginnings.
